Unidentified Flying Object Observed in Vicinity of Bethesda, Maryland on 10 February 1955

It details a sighting of an unidentified aerial object reported by a civilian employee of the David Taylor Model Basin in Bethesda, Maryland. The incident occurred on the night of February 10, 1955, at approximately 2203 hours. The witness, who was driving on McArthur Boulevard near the entrance to Cabin John Gardens, observed a luminous, saucer-shaped object at an altitude of approximately 150 feet. The witness described the object as having a flat top, a spherical bottom, and a yellowish, radiant color similar to the moon. The object remained stationary for about 30 seconds before the bottom portion appeared to shift into a funnel-like shape, after which the object seemed to diminish in size. The witness, who identified himself as an amateur astrologer, noted that the night was dark and cloudy, with no moon or stars visible, and that there were no other vehicles on the road. The witness was accompanied by his wife and son during the sighting. Following the initial observation, the witness drove to the entrance of Cabin John Gardens and then retraced his route, but the object was no longer visible.
