Project 10073 Record Card — Shreveport, Louisiana, 1954-1956

This document file contains a Project 10073 record card, correspondence, and internal routing sheets regarding a civilian report of unidentified aerial phenomena in Shreveport, Louisiana. In January 1958, an unnamed civilian submitted a photograph to the U.S. Air Force UFO investigation committee at the Pentagon. The witness reported that while reviewing old pictures, they discovered two strange black dots in a photograph taken sometime between 1945 and 1956. The witness circled these objects and requested an evaluation. The Air Force conducted an analysis of the photograph and concluded that the objects were birds, specifically appearing to be pheasants on the rise. Internal routing notes from the UFO Project Officer, Captain George F. Gregory, further elaborated that the photograph was of poor quality, out of focus, and depicted a scene with foggy conditions, which may have been caused by smoke from a forest or brush fire. The Air Force responded to the witness on February 27, 1958, via Major Lawrence J. Tacker, acknowledging the submission but explaining that the long delay since the sighting, the lack of supporting information, and the poor quality of the image made a definitive evaluation difficult. The original photograph and an enlargement were returned to the witness along with a copy of the latest Department of Defense fact sheet on unidentified flying objects.
