UFO Index Card and Supplement to AF Form 112 — Edwards AFB, 23 November 1954

This document is a comprehensive field investigation report regarding a sighting of unidentified aerial phenomena near Edwards Air Force Base, California, on November 23, 1954. Multiple witnesses, including a Major, a Staff Sergeant, an Airman Second Class, and a civilian, reported observing four to five lights in formation moving from North to South. The witnesses described the objects as round, white, and brighter than stars, with some displaying a yellowish-orange or neon-blue aura. The objects were observed at an altitude of approximately 7,000 feet. While some witnesses initially perceived the objects as hovering or moving at varying speeds, others noted they appeared to move in a straight line. The duration of the sightings ranged from three to eight minutes. The investigation, conducted by the 1602d Air Intelligence Service Squadron, included checks with the Combat Operations Center, the Ground Observer Corps, and the Mount Wilson Observatory. No radar contact was available as the local A&E site was out of service. However, flight records from the Flight Service Center at March AFB revealed that a refueling operation involving KC-97 tankers and B-47 aircraft was occurring in the vicinity during the time of the sightings. The investigation concluded that the objects were, in fact, these aircraft engaged in a refueling operation. The report includes individual statements from the witnesses, memory sketches of the object formations, and a summary of the investigative findings, ultimately attributing the sighting to conventional military activity.
