This document collection details the investigation into a reported sighting of a cigar-shaped object in Hamlet, Indiana, on September 17, 1954. A civilian named Mr. Hall discovered the object, which measured approximately five feet in length and six inches in diameter. The object was constructed from aluminum and steel and contained radio equipment. It was initially turned over to Lt. Col. Oscar Stegall at the Kingsbury Ordnance Depot. The Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) and the Office of Special Investigations (OSI), in conjunction with the FBI, conducted an investigation into the incident. The investigation concluded that the object was a hoax, having been constructed and placed on the local golf course by an individual identified as Jensen. Subsequent military communications between ATIC and the 24th District OSI confirm that the object was determined to be a hoax, rendering further shipment of the material to ATIC unnecessary. The file includes record cards, internal military message forms, and photographic evidence of the recovered object, which clearly shows its man-made, electronic components. The case was ultimately filed under Project Blue Book.
