Project 10073 Record Card — Mobile, Alabama, 30 June 1954

On June 30, 1954, a sighting of an unidentified aerial object occurred over Mobile, Alabama. The object was described by multiple witnesses, including civilians and a control tower operator at Brookley Air Force Base, as a brilliant, silver-colored craft resembling a jet aircraft. Witnesses noted that the object produced no sound and left no vapor trails. It was observed approaching from the south, circling the city, and then proceeding in a northeasterly direction. The sighting lasted approximately 60 seconds. The object was also tracked on radar by the base control tower, which reported a circular area approximately eight miles in diameter on the scope, located 55 nautical miles from the base. Major James Zicherali, the Public Information Officer at Brookley, stated that the object appeared to be a jet-type aircraft of a new design with short, stubby wings. Despite the radar contact and visual reports, the Air Force concluded that there was no information presented that conflicted with an aircraft analysis, and the duty officer noted that the object was considered an improbable threat. The incident was documented in a Project 10073 record card and associated military communications.
