Project 10073 Record Card — Danvers, Massachusetts, 24 June 1954

This document is an Air Intelligence Information Report concerning an Unidentified Flying Object (UFOB) sighting that occurred on June 24, 1954, in Danvers, Massachusetts. The report was prepared by Captain Francis W. Hennin of the 6520th Test Support Wing at Laurence G. Hanscom Field. The witness, a Director of Commercial Engineering at CBS-Hytron, reported observing a small, white, elliptical object at approximately 12:45 P.M. The object was seen at an elevation of 50 degrees, traveling in a straight line from the southwest to the northeast. The witness estimated the object's size to be about one-eighth of an inch when held at arm's length and noted that it did not glisten and made no sound. The observation lasted for approximately 30 seconds. The witness attempted to use binoculars to get a better view, but the object disappeared before he could focus them. He searched the area for several minutes afterward but did not see the object again. The witness also noted that he observed other aircraft and birds in the area on the following day and was certain that what he saw on June 24 was not any of those things. The report includes detailed weather data for the region, including wind reports from Nantucket, Bedford, and Boston, and notes that there were no weather balloons launched in the area at the time. An investigation of reports filed at the CAA Traffic Control Center in Boston yielded no evidence of abnormal conditions in the area. The reporting officer concluded that the cause of the sighting remained undetermined.
