The object was initially observed on September 8, 1946. It was subsequently reported to a local constable (fjärdingsman) named Henriksson on September 10, who then secured the item on September 13. The specific location of the discovery is described as being in the forest, approximately 900 meters east of the northern tip of Pihlajajärvis and 800 meters from the sea. The memorandum confirms that the box was forwarded to the National Defence Research Institute on the date of the document for further examination.
