In IUR Vol. 1, No.1,a case inthe ForeignForumfeaturedescribedan encounterbetweenIranian jets and a UFOwhichplayed mouse"withthem, appearing on .radar and"paralyzing"theirweapons andelectronicssystemswhen the jetsattemptedto openfireon it. In the interim, rumorsbegan tocirculate that agovernmentdocumentde- tailingtheincidentwas being ex- amined byhighgovernmentofficials. UFO researcher CharlesHuffertook aninterestinsecuringa copyofthis documentwhileinGermany, but all hiseffortsmetwith officialrebuffs. This pastsummeron a-tripto the UnitedStates, Mr.Hufrermanaged to obtain acopyof theoriginalteletype messagereproducedbelowwhich givesdetailsof the case from the Pentagon, undertheauspicesof the Freedom ofInformationAct. What isparticularlyinteresting about thedocumentis the officialagencieswhichreceived copies of the message.Brieflytrans- officialacronyms, the documentwas received by thefol- officesandagencies:the Secretary of Steste, the CentralIntel- IigenceAgency, theWhiteHouse, the AirForce and ArmyChiefsof Staff, the Chief of NavalOperations, the DefenseIntelligenceAgency, the Commanderin Chief of U.S. Naval Forces in theMiddleEast, the Commanderin Chief of the U,S. Animpressive IUR andothershave beenintrigued by the factthatthisparticularUFO reportseems to have become the con- cern of the "topbrass"in the U.S. militarydefensestructure.Do all UFO reportsundergothissortofdistribu- tionand what happens to them .once they reach theseprestigiousoffices? IURcontactedthe local state sen- ator'sofficeMilitaryLiaisonOfficer who was able to be of some assis- tance in thematter. She called the Army, Navy, and Air Forceofficesin Washingtonas well as the Depart- ment of Defense and addressed these veryquestionson behalf of IUR. The answers wereil, uminating:all these agree:dthat the"topbrass" mentionedin thedistributionlist wereroutinelyInformedofeveryitem ofinterest whichcomes out of the sensitiveMiddleEast area. Hence. it not.unusualat all thatcopiesof the reportshouldhave made theirway to theseoffices.Allcorrespondence makesthemilitarywiresfrom thisarea is so relayed. As notall UFOreportsfromeveryarea are conveyed tothesesources, that questionmustremainunansweredat thistimeexceptby implication;any reportfroma . "hot"areawouldbe. relayed. At 0130 hrs on the19ththeF-4 tookoffand proceededtoapoint about 40 NM(nauticalmiles-Ed.) North ofTehran.Duetoitsbrilliance theobjectwaseasilyvisiblefrom 70 milesaway. As the F-4approacheda .range of 25 NM helostallinstru- mentationandcommunications(UHF andintercom). He broke offtheinter- cept and headed back toShahrokhi. When the F-4 turned away from the object andapparentlywas nolongera threat to it theaircraftregainedall in- strumentationandcommunications. At 0140 hrs a secondF-4was launched. Thebackseateracquireda radarlockon at 27 NM, 12o'clock positionwiththe VD (rate of closure) at 150 NMPH. As the range decreased to 25 NM theobjectmoved away at a speed that wasvisibleon the radarscopeand stayed at 25 NM. C. Thesizeof the radar return was comparableto that of a 707tanker. Thevisualsize of theobjectwas difficulttodiscernbecause ofits intensebrilliance.Thelightthat it ~javeoffwas that offlashingstrobe ightsarrangedin arectangular patternandalternatingblue, green, red and orange incolor. The se- quence of thelightswas so fast that all thecolorscouldbe seen at once. Theobjectand the pursuingF-4 continuedon a course to the south of Tehran whenanotherbrightlylighted object, estimatedto be one half to onethirdthe apparent size of the outof theoriginal object. This secondobjectheaded straighttoward the F-4 at a very fast rate of speed. Thepilotattemptedto firean AIM-9missileat the object but atthatInstant hisweaponscontrol panel went offand he lost all communications(UHFandInter- phone).Atthispointthepilot initiateda turn and negative G dive to get away. As he turned the object fell intrailat what appeared to be about 3-4 NM as hecontinued away from theprimaryobject the second object went to the inside of histurnthen returned to the primary objectfor aperfectrejoin. D.Shortlyafterthe second object joinedup with theprimaryobject anotherobjectappeared to come out of theotherside of th~primaryobject goingstraightdown at a great rate of speed. The F-4 crewhadregained communicationsand the weapons controlpanel and watched the object approachthe groundanticipatinga largeexplosion.Thisobject to come to restgentlyon the earth and casta verybright lightover an area of about2-3kilometers.Thecrew descendedfromtheiraltitudeof 25M to 15M andcontinuedto observe and mark theobject'sposition. They difficultyinadjustingtheir nightvisibilityforlandingso after orbitingMehrabad a few times they went out for astraightInlanding. There was a lotofinterferenceon the UHF and each time they passed through a mag. bearing of 150 degree from Fhrarad they lost munications.(UHF andInterphone) and the insfluctuated(instruments -Ed.)from 30 degrees-50degrees. The onecivilairlinerthatwas ap- proaching Mehrabad duringthissame time experiencedcommunications failure In the sameVicinity(KILO didnot report seei ng any- thing.Whilethe F-4was on a long final approach the crewnoticed anothercylinder shapedobjectabout the size of aT-birdat 10M [10,000 Ed.] withbrightsteadylightsoneach end and aflasherin themiddle. When queried thetowerstatedtherewas no other knowntrafficin the area.
