Secretary's Report: The Secretary reported that the next Journal would soon be to hand al though over a period of three mon the approx. only 20 news clips were to hand. Two NI CAP magazines were handed to the Secretary by the President for circulation amongst Librarian's Report: Correspondance INs Phamphlet from Amateur Astronomer's Suppliers DisplEcy'ing telescopes and kits available. Correspondanoe OUT: Letter to Supt. Wra. enclosing Minutes of the last meeting. TELESCOPE: After perusing the catalogue, it was suggested that as it was not possible for members to view the telescopes prior to purchase, a letter be written to Astronomer's Suppliers asking whether it would be possible to purchase a telescope (mominated Japanese model for $85, 4i'' refleotor) on approval. Action Mr. McCarthy. Mr. Whitmarsh suggested that an advertisement be placed in the 'Advertiser asking for quotes and details from arry-person wishing to sell a good second-hand telescope. Action Mr. McCarthy. I have since discussed the matter with Superintendent/Trials, Regional Security Officer, Adelaide, and Cl1ief Security Officer, l~elbourne. 2. 4l.-ising from t hese discussions, I now wish to advise that the situation 1egarding the reporting of "sightings" on the \~oomera Range 'dll be dealt with as follows : (a) If any "sighting" should be reported by any member of the staff of Ranges Group, Woomera, this fact will, in future, be notified through P. O./Ranges and Superintendent/Trials to this Office. (b) Such reports will be checked by Senior staff in Trials Wing to ensure that tl1e level of r epo1-ting is acceptable. (c) Only reports of which can not be othen.rise satisfactorily explained will be forwarded to the Security Branch and by tl1em to the Department (d) The Security Officer at Woomera will be advised by P.O./Ranges of any report forwarded to Superintendent/ Trials but \.ri 11 take 110 further action. (e) Any report checked and passed by Trials Wing at Salisbury will be forwarded by me to the Regional Security Officer, Adelaide for on- forwarding to the Chief Security Officer and the Department of 3. The above procedures have been proposed with a vie,., to ensuring that only reliable reports of which have been scientifically vetted wjll be fortrarded to the Department of Air and that this Establishment will be informed of all such before they are reported to outside organisations.
