No. Noire doul~t I recently had a report of a U.F.O. brou~ht to my attention for processing. As you are aware, most of the reports received in CIS refer to meteorites or fire- balls and are of particular interest to the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys. 2. We do on occasion however, reoeive a report or a tJ.F.O. of undetermined origin and l n the best interests of national security, we have in the past been forwarding these reports to the Chief of the Air Staff and Oanairhed Ops. In view of the integration of the military services, these particular addressees and titles are now obsolete, letter on .file dated March 23rd aqked for advice as to the correct maili ng addres~es and the names of the corresponding military departments that would be interested in such aightings. 4. Air Vioe Marshal w.w. BEAN has replied to vour letter providing us with the appropriate address to oontaot at the Canadian Forces Headquarters. He went on to qu~gest that when we are satisfied that a particular eight1ng ls merely a fireball or meteorite, the only department that would be interested would be the Department of Ml.ne11 and Technical Surveys. 5. In view of' the integration of the military aervioea, all our instructions in the Operational Manual dealing with cooperation relating to former branchee of the Armed Services are now no doubt obsolete. 6. Should you so direct, I am prepared to carry out this re-writing project, but a~ I am about to devote a~ost full time to the preparation of the CommiaRloner a Brief for the Interpol Assembly Meeting 1n Rio de Janeiro in June, the work woul d have to be delayed until July, I might mention thot our 1natruot1ona 00-AIR 10-Merch-62, 00-NAV l~-Sep-6q, under the present oiroumstsnceB, gave incorrect in~truotions \to our Field divhions.
