First tests in Southwestern Ohio are expected in a few days as the aircraft arrives at W-P from G~nville. Tex. Called BIAS -for Battlefield Illuminauon Atrborne Subsystem -the powerful lamps wtll be vis- i ble over a wide area. W-P also will be tne staging area for t~>sts of the subsystems at Elgin AF B. The tliumtnat.ion subsystem was developed for the Air Force by Temco-Vought LTV Electro- systems. Greenville. Tex. Aero- nautical Systems Division here is directing the developmental ef- fort. The subsystem produces a concentrated conical beam. and is comprised of 28 high-in tensity. xenon arc lamps moun ted on the forward portio n of the C-130 fuselage. Project officer for BIAS is :Vlaj.
