Capt Shea said he had coordinated with the press desk there and they coordinated with NASA. The only thing that had been changed in the proposed release was the following sentence: "Therefore, it seems probabl~ that this rocket body is the stlmults for the sightings. " Lt t.larano was informed that the release had been give n to HcChord AFB on Friday afternoon, 26 July 1968 for release. BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON UFO SIGHTINGS FROM AUBURN, WASHINGTON The following UFO sightings were submitted to the Ai r Force by an observer in Auburn, Washington. Because the sigbtings ~ere o~ a moving star-llke point-source of light, the information was given to the Space Defense Center (SDC) to determi ne if a satellite could the stimulus. SDC ran a computer program using the above dates and :.~es and determined that Cosmos 103 Rocke t Body 'WOuld have been visible f~m Auburn a t the above specified times. Therefore, it seems beyond ~eeeen8ble doubt that this rocket body is the stimuhafor the sigbtiags. I MEMO FOR THE RECORD Subj: UFO Observations, Auburn Washington , TDPSX, double, checked and called the Aerial Phenomena Office to say that SDC again identified the sightings as being observations of the Cosmos 103 Rocket Body.
