A H. MALONEY/ l-1AJOR, CA-U3.\R / Information Officer Cochrane, Wisconsin On 4 Apr 1968 at about 8:15 p.m. CST the observer and her young son vere dJ.i ving on Route 35 about 4 miles south of Cochrane Wisconsin when tht:! lights of th~ cc.r ahead vent out. The observer then sighted an orangi3h-red crescent shaped o.,j cect that appeared to be hovering over the car in front. The observer stop~et be~ car and the object appeared to move and hover over her car. The engi~e c~ ~er car then reportedlystopped snd the lights and rudio ~topped working also. l>..::-ing this time, the interior of the car oeemed to become very hot, particu~a~ly the feet of the observ~rs. The object then appe~rcd to ~ove away and the=. started to return again. T'ae observer then started her car and left the area of ~he sighting. Duration of the sighting was about 5 mlnutes. \oTEATHZR D.~TA: At 6:00 p.m. CST, the sky was obscured and visibility vas 1/2 mile with lib~v drizzla. At 7:00 !J.:n. CST, there was a 3/4 cloud cover with fog from the surface to the base of clouds and visibility of l} miles. At 10:00 p.m. CST, it vas overcase with fog from the surface to the base of the clouds and visibility was 5 miles. co:.rG::fi'S: Although the observer indicated that she was traveling f..TE, the reap of t~e area indicates that the road goes pri~3rily ~V. The observer state d in her description that the object ~as crescent shaped. There wa s a crescent moon relatively low in the western s ky. The broken cloud cover and fog may have confusei the observer into thinking that it was something ncar rather than far a"t. .... y . T:"liS asrumption would have led her to conclude that it \las rapidly moving, chasing her and then when she stopped, hovering over her. The fo& in the area \.'')U ... c!. 1:2.. -..: e caused a bluring of the outline of the moon and .Ould account for the ooscr1e~ ~o enting that the object had cloudy stuff around it that looked like anz~ : hs~r. Further the observer indicated that there was no moonli6ht the night o:- e sig~ting, but a police officer who interviewed the observe r approximately o~e r a~ter the sightir.g mentioned that the moon vas quite bright. ~llien the o~j~c~ ~??eared to be hovering over the observer's automobile, she rolled up the wi~dc~3 d locked the doors, presumably for protection. It seem3 to be at this poin~ a~ ~he observer began to feel hot. However, the observer stated that she h~d ~e e~ on and eoi~g full. This would account fbr the sensation of heat, part~c a~:y o~ the feet. T.~a ~:: ;~r ~as qu e upset during the sighting and states in her testimony tha t '' : .:::.G.~ted crying a little bit " It seems quite possible that in her excite~e a~a fear she rray have stalled or turned off the ignition of her car, thus accou~tin6 for the engine stopping. The use of the word "angel-hair" by the observer is quite interesting. Tnere is so~e evidence from her testimony that she was interested in the subject of UFO' s, had read about them, and when she ran into something that confused hel' itiu'nediately assumed 1 t -was a UFO D.?TR/Lt Col Smith nequest surface veather observations for Winona, Minnesota tor 3 April 1968, 2015 hours, CST.
