Sunday, 4 Feb 68, at approximately 1930 PST the Norton AFB Dispatch Section of Base Operations received a phone call concerning a UFO. The woman's description was very incoherent. Furthermore she would not supply her address or tel~phone number. Due to the nature of the telephone conversation the dispatcher could only ignore the incident and the UFO Officer was not contacted. 2. The first indication of a UFO sighting received by this activity was from a Hr John Ahrens of t he University of Colorado. Mr Ahrens called on Friday, 9 Feb, and asked if an investigation had been initiated by our activity. I told him that we were unaware of the sighting. Mr Ahrens said he was advised of the UFO sighting by Dr Seff of the University of Redlands, R~dlands, California. Dr Seff works in support of the UFO Early Warning Coordinatora System employed by the University of Colorado. I immediately contucted Dr Seff and was informed that he had implemented an investigation aided by Dr Kranz and Dr Sanderson also of the University of Redlands. They had interviewed the children (2 girls and a boy) of the~family and a All r eside in the same general area in Redlands, Calif. All the witnesses reported approximately the same findings. Thteir investigation was con- clud~d by the following: a. 'fhe UFO sighting was not caused by a cvnventional aircraft. They aid not rule out the possibility of a helicopter, if there had been one in t h e area. b . l'h~ ! ccd o..1hinnyi!lg sound associate<! with t he UFO was similar to the sound used on the rv show the "Invaders... The sound caused many dogs in the area to bark. c. witness, disclosed that he had a tingling sensation during the sighting that caused the hair on his body to stand on end. Dr Seff suggested that this description i mplied the presence of s ome so~t of electromagnetic force. Seff is now attempting to contact additional witn~sses. his investigation will be forwarded to the University of The results 3. After discussing the entire U.FO sighting with Dr Seff I conducted a belated investigation. 4. The follo~ing URO report is submitced in accordance with AFa 80-17. The attac hed UlO ~orksheet includes all information requirad by the above r~Jlation. 5. , t the Redlands Police Department, by this investigating officer. All questions aslt~d answered on the attached UFO workshre~at. It shou l d be this time that the answers are V3ry similar to the anst111ers given to Dr Seff and his associates when the same witn~ss was interviewed by th~m. In addition, two articl~s that appear~d in t~ local Redlands newspaper are attached. 6. Comments o f the i nvesti gating officer ar~: a. From all the information gathe it would be most likel y t o assume that the sound heard by and c aused the dogs to bark the electronic siren that produc a high-pitched oscillating whine by the Sa n Gorgonio Search and R~ascue Team as stated in th0 newspaper article, dated 1 Feb 68. The team n~ved through the area approxim.tely four to five blocks from the location o f the witness, in tb~ same direc~ion described by him, ~nd at the id~ntical tima of the sighting. b. As mentioned in the news article dated 1 Feb the implication is made that the mystery of the strange sound, s e ems to be satisfie d by the proximity of the search and rescue team. But what of the ~oving lights in the S~J? The inv~scigation disclosed that a light plane arrived at Tri-Ci~y airport at 1915 PST, Sunday, 4 F~b 68. Th~ traffic patt8rn for light planes at Tri-City would cause a flight path similar to the path of the UFO lighcs described by There was no helicoptor o;>e~atln,g in t!le vicinity a t the noted ti:ae ::1or did March AFB Approach Con1:r o l , lo.:.ated a t Marc h AYB, paint any unu;au.al targctts on radar during the ti~ span. In addi~io~. no weath~r ballons were released in the immediata ar~a during this period. c. ~sed op the strength of th~ facts pr~sented, the exists tn.t th~flight path of the light plane accompanied by the search and rescue siren caused this UFO r eport.
