A revie\v of the American h"'phemeris and Nautical Almana c 1966, revealed that Jupiter ,(ia s rising on an azimuth of approximately 55 degrees at the time of the sighting. Jupiter, vTith a stellar ~gnitude of -2.1 on 1i Decembe~1966 would have been quite bright and could t.ed for the observation. ~are fil g your c ase\ for -infor~ation purposes only; Since our sighting occurred outside the limits of the United State3J ~Te wish to thank you for bringing ~1t(~iisQ~i~B to the attention of the United States Air Force. Appeared as brilliant orange balls. . . . Object at 9:00 traversed about 45, N to S approximately and appeared as elliptical sharply defined shape about 1/4 inch apparent length through binoculars. Vfas surrounded by orange aura about 4 times the size of object. Seemed to repeatedly divide into t\vo object. Dropped three "sparks" or spheres of yello\v-orange light::~, flickered, and disappeared about 10 o N of Zenith. Visible about 5 minutes. Object at 10:50 appeared in N\V sky about 15 o above horizon, moved South. \Vas iairly brilliant, split into t\vo objects and disappeareC.. Visible about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Object at 11:10 appeared in N'\V sky about ~0 above horizon, moving .. South. Follo\ved curved path toward SE. Extremely brilliant orange. Started to fade to yello\v and divided into t\VO dis tinct objects. Faded to almost invisible (through 16 x 50 binoculars)., at;td suddenly rever~ed direction, became bright yello\v, accelerated to meteoric velocity, and disappeared behind house acress street. Visible about 3 minutes *These "sparks" "vere dropped one at a time. The first one fell a long '\vay, 15 or 20. The se_cond and third ones fell shorter distance, but were still visible \vhen object started to disappear. Motion of object \vas very-slo\v -slower than Echo satellites. Two objects appeared in North about 3 oo above horizon about 10 apart. Color was golden or:tnge. Naked eye magnitude about-10. 0. Objects moved very slo'\vly south,.vard, to a position almost overhead, then stopped dead and hovered motionless for at least 5 mintues. Through 16 x 50 binoculars the objects appeared about 1/4" in diameter, and '\Vere sharply defined discs. Around the periphery of each was a ro'\v of apparently detached orar.ge lights. ".l): The lights '\vcre approximately 8 or 10 in number. The extremely brilliant golden orange color was very steady. There was no sound associated '\vith the objects. About 15 people were in the group observing the objects .. including the occupants of t\vo c ars \vhich h a d stopped. In addition to the '\vriter's 16 x 50 binoculars, another observer ha d 10 x 50 binoculars. Sev:cra l of the observers vie \\'ed the object s through the binocular s . The discs had an apparent diame t er, through the binoculars, of approximate! y 1 I 4 to 5/ 16 inch , cxcl.uding the peripheral lights. After hovering motion] e s s for 4 or 5 n1inutt! s , the object on the right started to flicker violently and dropped a quantity o! orange glo'\ving mate:-i?.l from its periphery. _t\fter sever a l more viol~nt flickers, it diso.ppearcc and then bcc2.me visibl e again, dropped more T\VO objects appeared in the north, moving to\vard the south. They were of the same orange color as the earlier objects . These \vere about 30 apa1t in the sky. They \verc still visible when t\VO more objects appeared lo\V in the northern sky. HO ?-tl.CN One by one these objects disappeared. over a period of 5 o.r 10 minutes Almost immediately a 5th object appeared, moving more rapidly than the previous 4 objects. It climbed in a stepped manner, turned to\vard the west, and then appeared as t w o objects. After dropping some orange particles.,' or "sparks", it flickered and disappear ed. These five objects were seen by twelve observers, .and \vere the last observed on.20 Dec., 1966.
