Their supervisors stated both observers felt reluctant to report the UFO for fear of redicule. g. \leather and Tl'iinds -Aloft conditions at time and plc.ce of sightings: (1) Observer number 1 -Ceiling 1000 ft. haze and rain, poor visibility. J Observer nQ~ber 2 -Visibility in the valley in the direction of the object was good due to the wind velocity which he guessed to be about 35 knots. Surface wind at Vandenberg AFB v1hich is the closest 140 at 12 knots. (4) 7 miles (5) Overcast h. Contact by the preparing officer with local airports~ base air police, range operations and Battelle Northwest; A company operating in the area of the sighting, failed to produce any unusual occurance. j. The Base Weather Station, the Boat House at Point Arguello, and South Vandenberg reoorted numerous weather balloon launches before, during and after the time the UFO was sighted. However, none of the agencies launched a red or orange balloon or a bal l oon of a color that could have been identified as the UFO. k. Cy L. Asta, Captain, USAF, ?V3109301, Helicopter Pilot, 4392 Aerospace Support Group, SAC, Vandenber g AFB, California. Analysis by preparing officer: A visual check of the area by elicopter revealed a dirt road in t he v3.lley where the UFO \-Jas sighted. This road follows t he val l ey f l oor and runs p2rallel to the Honda Ridge Road . It is t he opinion of the prep~ring o{ficer that the object obser ved ,,.I as a ground vehicle i.e. truck , car, bus, camper, that \vJ.s traveling up the dirt road into the hills. Due to the existing weather conditions, and the foliage in the area, it would be possible to erroneously identify a vehicle FOR THE COHMAl\TDER DIXON~t Colonel, Director of Operations
