'he objects sighted 1-1ere brj.eht white and red. liehts that appeared to b~ about ten (10) degrees above the.nonnal horizon in a northernly direction from Condon !U'S Oregon. These lights appeared to go on and off c.:t intervals of one t o two minutes with no apparent movernent men v.l.e't:~d. through binocul ars or the naked. eye. b. Since the lights persisted. I drew a reference line on the lr.i.ndow pane t~at I l.zas lookin~ thro~gh from inside n\Y quarters to check for re- cu:rrance. During the next day I checked rrry reference line and found that the line coincided with the horizon formed 'b-J some distant mountains, app~c:d.mately 100 miles a"tray l-mich are normally not visible. A check 1dth the highway department revealed that .a new road had. recently been opened. a c ross the mountains. Subsequent vie1-r.i.ngs revealed the lights in the same location as the new road and the reference line on the windo~T. Therefore I an" reasonably certain that the lights were vehicle head and tail liehts. 2. I re6ret the delaj-in answering your letter.
