On the a.fternoon o.f December ~J:~-a. my.stat-1ous fireball. made its way across seven par.theas tern~ s"" te.s : ~and part of Canada, and wes signt.ad by air- line pilafs as well as by hundreds or-ofher people. Strangs metal strips were found in D swamp 40 miles north of Detroit, and a l~rgg woodad a~ea ubout 30 miles fr~m Pittsburg, Pa. ~s seuled off for sevgral hours whil~ a thorough search for debris ~as made ty hundreds of members of thg Army's 662nd R~da~ Squadron, state police, ~nd volunteers. Nothing was found, however. Officials state th~t a meteorite was p=obably the cause of it all, but the times in- volved indicate that the object was traveling much too sloJJ for a meteorl te. Thera is also evidence that it changed cours e in flight. (N. Y. J ournal-Amuri- c:ln, 12/10/65; The Jerse y City ~1. J . Journ~ l, 1 2/10/55; Duluth~ Minn.
