At 3.7 1115 on 12 Auguat 1965, while tl.ying in a T-29B aircraft, L1kel.7 12, on a !ocal transition tlight out ot Wright- Patterson AFB, I saw an unidentified object in flight. 2. Capt Cahoon was the instructor pilot on board. He was seated in the copilot' a seat (right seat ) and Capt Dixon, undergoing a pro- ficiency tlisht check, was in the pilot's seat (left seat). I was seated 1n a forward facing seat, adjacent to the isle, located about midway over the aircraft wing and there was one seat between me and the window. NT view was unobstructed throUSh the window. We were beginnins a GCA approach and had Just steadied out traB a left turn onto a headins ot 300. We were descending from 4ooo feet to 3000 teet. We had Just our turn after passing over Springfield, and were 2 or 3 miles North ot that City. I saw the object through the window at about our 3 O'Clock position. It was slightly higher tban us, and it appeared to be about 5 miles away'. The haze was very dense, and est1 mate that 1 t eoul.d not been farther than 7 miles f'ra11 us. It moved in a sin curve pattern, strongly iDg snnlisht when it ascending, but appearing only viaable u a grq object, ially hidden by haze, in its descent. Its speed hifl11l7 erratic. In of' the 3 ascents it made, ita s seemed to be taster as the ease ot the speed in ita 3 descents .
