On 3 August, 0600Z (J/2000 lot:al) a family liviJ.lg in Waikiki beach reported bright light s saving acres~ th2 s!~:, .. at high altitudes and on various headings. The lights appeared t o change colors from red to blue. During tl1e telephone conversation with the family, I wa s able to ob- s e=ve the sky froc a position approximately 7 miles from ~.:a:..:,iki. I sat-1 no:hing except sohle brig h t stars. Sinc 2 no one else repor~.:.:d the lights, even though they reiJortedly were flying over a heavily populated area, I consid~r the report t o be non-significant . b . On 4 August, 0644Z (3/20Lt-4 local) num:~rous s:~gt:t ings were made of an object t-7hich ~11 from the aky e>outh- west of Oahu. This \.vtiS 13 -winutes late~ than the sighting reported by the aircraft. How- ever, the aircrew was not exactly sure o f the time. There- fore, I believe the s~ghting ~nd the missile flight were in fact one and the sane. d. On 5 August , at 1311Z, several aircraft at 28-33N/ 145 , reported a ro ;et firing from the surface of the oc~aL:. Tne object c ::..::Ded rapidly aDd fle~v int~ the clouds on heading 049. One aircr2ft also reported a group of five ships r.-1lthin the area of the l~unch. (1) A query to CINCPACFLT OPS PLOT revea led that the sightins was probaoly a navy o?er.:Jtion bei~g conducte d in that area at that time. e. Also on 5 August at 05002, a teenager re?ortcd a bright light in the sky. Since no other details were available, and no other reports made, the sightLt~ was ntled no~-stgnificant and no investigation was oade. 2.
