Descripti on of the Object(s): (l) Shape described as appearing like a star. ( 2) Size was compared to star by stating i t was too large and too bright. (6) See attached letter. c. }'Janner of Observation: ( 1) Sighting was a ground visual. (2) Negative aids used. d. Time and Date of Sighting: 14 July 1965 2230 to 231.5 CDST (add five hours for Zulu time) (2) Night sighting. e. Location of Observer(s): Observer -vras sitting on a park bench at North Avenue beach. North Avenue is 1600 North on I.ake Nichigan facing east. Approximate geographic position should have been 8739" west, 4158tr North, which is the near north- east side of Chicago on the lake front. ~ .r. Identifying Info on Observer(s): Observer -vras a g . We !1. ther and ':tiinds : (1) Observer stated it was a warm night, stars were out; however, there was probably a scattered cloud condition. Not known by preparing of .ficer. i. Negative j . Not knmm k. This particular report was called in to the O'Hare Base Operations Office. The young lady seemed cooperative. She felt that someone might need to know about the object she had seen. She was asked to -v~rite a report in h e r or..m words. This was reques~ed after attempting to get all the information prescribed in AFR 200-2. It is this officer's opinion th~t the sighting was either a helicopter or aircraft. Approximately where the North Avenue beach is located is also point where several air- ways are located. The IIS system for Runway 27 at 0 'Hare would run just north of the North Avenue beach. Many times airliners will put on landing lights well out over the lake to distinguish their aircraft because or the heaV".f traffic. Combine the bright landing lights r,..ri th a revolving Grimes beacon to explain the touch of red. The landing lights from a distance appear to twinkle because of their candlepcmer.
