(Electronic 'lligi.neer for North On 13 May 65, Dr J Allen lflnek spoke to Mr street, Anaheill, California, homeph~ne: area work: American Aviation, Downey, California, phone At time he )JBS sitting in an Apollo Space Cratt. It was one ot the strangest things he bas ever seen, even while :tl.yins he never saw anythins like it. ObJect carried its own light source Was not a re:tlection, brighter than te stars. Planet Mars just to West and direct~ to the East a rather brigb~ star; other star determ1ned to be Arcturus. Object was 1111ch bri&hter than Arcturus, had a twinkle, went rather slowly, abQ.\t 175 desreea North to South, then disappeared very fast at a veey large speed. t at first it was a sate 111 te and wondering which sate 111 te, mayl:e a a a eftect, was bluish white light. Mr -wou14-be moat baP.P7 to :till out a , be it only to the Air Force because he waa atraid of ridicule, he cannot explain it but ia sure t.bat sanebody else who vorka 1D a ditterent field on this subJect could explain it. Traveled 1n a great circle, .,re 111re Arcturus 1D color than , but JIX)re bluish-white. Observed tor l7 tour , at abOut 3-l minutes it took a sudden , then climbed up aDd out o't but it took a sudden to the East. The light got and 8D1aller till it a to so out, tboupt it was part ot a very steep rate ot climb, which was rather high, perhap it was an optical illusion. Object wa iD tbe slq directl.7 overhead. at 90 degrees when first seen. Went.down to 30 s az11111th before starting a cl1m'b, 175 degrees is the bearing. Covered about 6o degrees ot the sk)r, saw no other object and it vas an exceptionally clear night, do not recall it going 1D tront ot an7 stars, just about a band' a width vae the distance tbat the object crossed, ten to titteen degrees sugseated tbat it might have been a burnout , a burnout would in and down. Time waa 1015 local. Object going slightly NW to SE, but t due Soath. It looked like it waa ita own light. Impression ot soina up ot meeuftr was ller than entry-o:r a lf-8 satellite into the e this was def1n1tel.7 a satellite onl.7 because object taded quickl7. Arc reported. Dr lf1Delt says that if' shadow occurred at about that , then Heajquarters USAF The Pentagon Washington, D.C. Dear Sirs: Anahe~, Califon6ta I am an electronic engineer presently employed with North A:r:erican Aviation in Dcnmey Cclifornia. I am working on Project Apollo amd am rewponsible tor the preflight checkout or a portion of the space communications equipment. I have been in the aerospace field for nine years and have worked at locations such as Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, China Lake, 6alifornia, Cape Canaveral in Florida and Edwards Air Force Base, California on various test program" such as Terrier, Tartar, l.latador, Mace, and X-15. I have seen maqy missile firings and D"Any firings or large ballistic missiles. I have seen sattelites am other various phenomena relating to ~ field. I feel that I might classify myself as a qualified observer of an object I sight in flight. I have been on flight status at Holloman Air iorce Base ar:d have flown in both Jets and t:ropeller driven aircraft. . Tonight, li\Y wife and I have seen an objetc which in all my years of experience I have never seen the likes or. The de tails are as folllows: Time of sighting: 2215 local time May 7th, 0515Z Uay 8 (QAT) position of object at time of sightlng: 090 deg. from Horizon or Directly overhead. Course or object: 175 degrees (North to _ _ ~outhJ .Lenght or sighting: 4 minutes '~0 T Color of object: Very bright bluish white and seemed to be oscillating in color (such as twinkling) Shape of object: Seamed to be disc shaped but was so bright, it Wc marginal to be certain Ver,y slow at first for about three and one half minutes but then accelerated at amazing rate of speed and climbet .!!E. and out of sight. I ascertained the direction it clime was up due to the fact that 1t became smallem as it a cceJ ated and lost brightness. Right before disappearing, it Changed its course to the southeast. It covered from 090 d~grees to 030 degrees in the four minutes I watched it. Sky Conditions: Very Clear, Many stars, NO clouds, Moon in the WE at approx 060 degrees above horizon, No wind. General: I have seen the planets Jupiter and Venus maqy times on clear nights when I built nzy-own telescope as an a:na teur astronomer, but this ob~ect was mllch brighter then these. I have no idea of its altitude even though I get the L~pr ion it was r ather high. I ijope this informaticn helps you in some -..-ay and even though the object I sighted rr..:1y be an explainable routine thing that is known. But at least, I feel I have done Ir\'/ duty as a citizen. Very Respect
