I was watching satellite 1960 lot~ 1 (Echo 1) transit at about 85 altitude South, when I sa\v \Vhot loo~ed like a typical slow but unusually faint and persisting Meteor goinu S . E . from about 45 altituda (ubout dec . 0, fi. A . 23hr.). 1 int- ediately put my 7X50 binoculars on i t and followe d it for about 3 seconds whe n it went behind a tree in the S.. at an altitude o.f ab- out 20 (about dec. 30 S., ll.A. 2hr.) 1 could discern no color with the binoculars but its shape 1vas a bond about 0.1 wide and 0 . 5 long, brightest in the center third and Jading toward the ends. The length of the band was parallel to the line of flight. 'fhe sky was very clear.
