I saw a g reat drop o[ brilliant \\:hite li~ht d escend slowly down the sky, leaving an e xtremely intense sharp train, whme hrighwess ~wiftly spread l>ackward along it~ length. estimated the duration o( fall as three scc.onds, Lut p erhaps it was mudt lcs'i. ' The fireball ftrst appeared 12 o r l8 d e- grees :-~hove the h o ri1.on (I could n o t he sure a~ I was acing in a n othe r direction) , altll di'iappeared at four t o five degrees. The path , w~s inclined 70 d egrees west- we~rd to the h o rilOtt, and the azimuth o the point or di'iappear:-~nce was 15 deg rees we$t o south, .ts estimated :-~fterwarc.l (rom Polaris. This fireb;lll was intermedia te in bright n ess b etween V enus and the full m oon, probahly neare r the latte r , and its hue r esembled the white of burning magnesi um ribbon . The train was at first intense ly white , but within seconds it changed into a ,o l un~n o f very strongly red and orang e clouds, these tints undoubtedly influen.:ed by the sunset. The train thickened ~, nd slowly beca:me distorted into zigzags. As a who le, rhe train did not drift, but r e- mained s u spended without mo\em ent'in Slo wly fading ;mel hecoming white once m ore, the last scauered clouds of the train could be seen until 16 :22 -that is, ~6 minutes afte r th~ fa II.
