I was Officer of the Day on the 19th of February 1962 at vlhich time I received a call from Capt. Russell Ford of the 693rd Radar Sq. indicating they had receiYed a report on a UFO. I then contacted the two individuals who reported making the observation and interviewed them extensively as to what they had observed. Both men appeared to be qualified and reliable witnesses and during the course of the conversation, did not appea r to be prone to exa~geration. Mr. who is a commercial fisher:nan, indicated that h~ had been a fisherman of his life and th~t he had observed ma ny natural phenomena in the sky, hO'Aever, }'le had never seen anything comparable to the object in this instance . He indicrtted tha t he had observed sunspots or "sundogs", as he called it and he has also observed reflections upon aircraft ri~t a!'te~ the sun has set. HO'Aever, he stated none of these would explain the present phenomena observed any on the other hand, indicntes he has never really in the sky in the past. 693rd Radar Squadron, ~..,.hich is located at Dauphin Island, uas contacted and they indicRted that they did not pick up anything on the rada r screen at the time this object was observed. February 1962 To.: Air Technical Intelligence Center \oTright-Patterson AFB, Ohio l Subsequent to the telephone conversation with your office, the undersigr.ed again contacted the 69Jrd Radar Squadron at Dauphin Island relative to the subject UFO. At this time it was learned that there were two addition~l witnesses to this Observation. The first was Airnan Second Clas and the second was A irtnan Third Clas oth of that squadron. They indicated to me that ~-ere ir way toward Mobile, which wruld be due North of the Island , tr~veling by private vehicle at about 24COZ when they observed ti1is object i n the sky.
