Two unidentified flying objects ~ere reported by Mr. Atmore, Alabama, telephone on 13 May 1961. The undersigned personally telephoned to Mr. to determine the facts surroundjng the occurrence. Nr states that at 0010 CST (0610 Z) 13 l4ay 1961, a rather brilliant ~bite or bluish-~hite light passed over the vicinity of Atmore, Al.o.bama in a direction approximately West to East. Speed and altitude werP unkno\o/D and unestjma.ted. He also reported that c.1.t approximately 0230 CST (o830 Z), 13 May 1961, a similar light ag3.in passed over the vicinity of Atmore, Alabama ~ith a direction approximately from Northwest to Joutheast. Altitude and speed unknown and unestimated. l4r. Gtute~ that these lights looked very much like his observance of I ~hich he ~aw several times a few months ugo. Mr. i~ a Senior in hi&h Gchool, works at the Atmore, Alabama Radio Station WATM and appears to b e . incerely interested in scientifi c phenomena and his statements appear to be accurate. These two lights were observed by ~itnesses in the prP~ence of Mr. 3. It io the conclusion of the undersigned invPstig~ting officer that th~se ruther b rilliant white lights were the ~bite lights under the fuucluRe o f either a commercial jet aircraft or a military jet aircraft. The undersigned has ob::;erved "that the white light under the fuselage of a jet aircraft can be seen at a considerably farther distance than the red u.od fl'reen flashing navigation lights. This conclusion is further 3tren~thened by the fact that Atmore, Alabama is 10 nautical miles ~outh of th J:orthwest- Southea3"t jet ai~ay J20V u ... ed for both commercial and military jets, and is 5 nautical miles north of the East- West jet airway J50 V U3ed by military aircraft only. h . was advised by the undersigned to wi"th as much detailed information o.s possible. further action need by taken on this report. report any future occurrences It i~ concluded that no DIFO: AFSC (GCF)
