Colonel, USAF Public Information Divisi~n Office of Information oceback OI -3d The Wolfe City Public Schools WOLFE CITY, TEXAS Bo.rd of Edu~lion USAF UFO Project Washington. D. C. I would like to report what I genuinely believe to have been a U~O s ighting o n the evenlng of September 28, due east of this communi t y between the hours of 2400 and 6100. I am not an habitual writer of letter s o f thi s nor a "crank". Indeed, I am an Air Force Reservist and am quite well aware of the necessity of frank and e reporting of thing s of this natureo have three witnesses t o this sighting who will corroborate my story t o the extent that they observe d the UFO. I took great care to ascatain that wha t I was observing was not a conventional ai~ ~raft (of any sort k nown to me), was not behaving in the manner one would expect of a satellite, or a guided missile . From my window, the object moved from approximately forty-five degrees from the horiz e n down to approximately twenty. It had the general a~ax appear~nce of a star or planet except that it pulsated regularly from white to ora nge, red, and green. (Its motions would tend to rule out Mars or any other celestial body. ) At this latter position it appeared to be hovering while occasionally bobbing up and down and darting from side to side. Brilli ant flashes of white light were occa- sionally seen. Occasionally it would remain perfectlytstill or move in a gen er a l upward direction. I got into my car and drove out on the highway t o observe i t better. According to its brightness and rela- tiv e position on the horizon and i n relation to my two positions of obs8rvat1on , it ~as suffictentl7 clos~ f~r ~e to hav~ ea3llJ h~ard j 1 t or :-ociprocal engines if t;hey ,vere inco.r-;>orated. The object exhibited a light of a lower temperature than any observed stars, their being considerably more blue. 2 . It exhibited motion relative to fixed bodies which, it seemed to me, negated the idea that my eyes were playing tricks on me (until latsr). 3 . I made a quick mental note o r its relative position to a couple of constellations which I think I could skethh out at least roughly, thus ruling in or out stars. ],._. I have observed the color changes of Mars before. I do not believe I could have confused the two. In my observation o f many aircraft during four years active dut y at James Connally and Lackland Air Force Bases I must definitely assert that no aircraft can move that fast or change direction that suddenly, in my opinion. I have made notes in a little more detail if it would be of va l uB S ln:er-ely, l,l ' lc /} ~itt c.
