Description of Object(s): (1) Round base, irregularly shaped upper portion. (Z) Pea held in the hand at about arm's length; like the north star only approximately 50 diameters larger . . (3) Brilliant white; like molten metal intermittently changing to a pale yellow. (5) Not applicable. (6) From the lower left there appeared to trail a faint beam of amber light like someone opened a door and light shined out from within. (9) At times the object was observed swinging to and fro like a pendulum of low amplitude and slow frequency (approximately 15-20 seconds per cycle). Then it would stop swinging and appear to close like the aperture of a camera down to a point and finally black out completely. It would then appear again as a point, open up again and start the swinging motion. b. Description of Course of Object(s): ( 1) Brilliance (Z) Angle of elevation was 37 with a horizontal and the aximuth was 120 clockwise from north when first observed at 0310 Z hours, 1 June 1960. (3) Angle of elevation was 45-50 with a horizontal and the azimuth 150 clockwise from north when the observer stopped looking at the object at 0920Z hours, 1 June 1960. (4) Direction of the path of mov ement 'Ha s from NE to s-N 1novi:tg. o n an upward slope of about 45 . (5) Object was still visible at 0920Z hours, 1 June 1960, when the observer diacontinued his obaervation but was not visible at l035Z hours, 1 June 1960, when the observer checked at that time. He observed the planet Jupiter to be very bright and for approximately 45 minutes he studied Jupiter with the aid of a lZOX 4 l/Z reflector telescope. At no time did observe in the heavens an unidentified flying object; however, he did feel that to the casual observer, the planet Jupiter could present an optical illusion, especially when viewed without an appreciable optical aid. The period of observation was discontinued after 0400 Z hours, 1 June 1960, due to cloud for.ma obstructing the view.
