In order to che.ck this it i s necessary t o find out (as soon a s possible~ I hope) whether eith el' of lhc racbrs had any range readings. Also~ it is important to know whether ihe:&:e were any large surveillance or acquisition radars on the ground jn the neig~borhood. It is possible that there was a meteorological condition n t the tropopause which was scattccing the beam fro1n a powerful ground r :.t.d nr. In this case, the rada:rs on the plane would have obs ervccl a blip, l;ut they would not have been able to get a scl'ics of range rendings on it. Thus this i nforn1ation is ralher crucial.
