He als o spotted returns a short time l ater on his scope, and his g1.mner saw what he believed were ordinary aircraft lights in the same location as the radar target. No ooordinatee are available for these latte r s i ghtings. Aopareatly the other ships in this formation did not observe any unidentified objects. The airora.ft in which Ca9tain Wolter was flying was the tail end ship in the formation. (U) 3 . The statements of the orew members, the radar film aad the photo log are inclosed as requested. (U) 4. I then switched my set to 20.000 yard range and picked up an unidentified return at 12,300 yards. During that t:ime I also had very good returns of the aircraft in our formation. the farthest of vthioh was NO. -3 which was 4.000 yards range. This unldeotified target stayed with us a pproximately 30 minute:s and was 30 below our airorart. The coordinat~s or this s i ghting are 50:15 -130:39. The gunn~r stated that the objeot first ascended then descended finally disa?pearing to our right. For the next hour o r so. At times there were two tllld then a gain. three moving at a very fast rate of speed. Sever a l times thdy follm~ behind the f ormation and lights wore obse:tved. I did and 3aw it and it v~s not part of our formatioc. It had a ratating beacon but no Reo. lights nor NaT. lights. After I sighted it. it ascended and then descended to the r i ght of our formation out of sight. I also picked the return up on my radar at about 4 oclook in AZ. and at 3000 to 4000 yards.
