A long distance telephone call was received by this Center to General Dougher' s office at approx~tely 1210 hours from W/0 Det 7 , l006th ATSS, Jlllinneapolis, I~Iinn. ':1 stated that he was referred to the UFO Group, but was unable to contact anyone. In brief, the following represents his report a nd the recormnendcrtions rna:! e to him by Colonel Rethman and Captain Gregory: a . A metal object; 17 inches long and 5 inches in d iameter , apparently of magnesium alloy, 13ppro::dn\9 tely 12t pounds, l-189 reporten to the AISS office by the Sheriff of Alher.t Le e County (at the l"lin.r1esota I m1a border). The object wC\n fonnd on a f arm by the mmer ~Tho reported it to the Sheriff. The Sherif.!' then contacted the neHs photographer of the 'rri bune, Albert Lee County, i\1itmesota, who arrived on t h e scene and photographed it on 7 July 1959. Conse~1ently, it hit all the I~nneapolis papers. c . The sheriff the n notified Det 7 , who picke d up the object, making a study of the terrain, othe r features, and the circL~tancea attending its finding. Det 7 asked the assistance of Army CIC and the local OSI to assiat them in the investigation . Nothing was uncovered that would shed any light . d . In the course of the telephone conversation it Has revealed that the object; uas very corro:led. It Has l;-ling on top of the [rnss, a n.i there \rere no penetration marks in the ground, no d i scol oration, nothing that would indicate a fl i.g n t or f all. Bushes and nearby trees \vere checked by the AISS indicate flight from above. According to Holmes the object resembled a ery corroded artillery shell.
