FOR ACTION UNClASSIFIED '~ident tied Ob eota (per U.S.A.F. Headquarters Wire ot JulJ 1$) !beae objeote were quite poaaibl7 fireballs or meteors (but which, would depend on e1ze and brightness which are not deaorlbed). I~ the7 were large objeote, they could be fireballs and, while it would be remarkable that eo many fireballs could be eeen in euoh a short apace or time (ten in balr an hour), it ia not outside the bounds ot poss1bil1t7 Their varied and sometimes opposite directions would, or oourae, rule out any chance or them being oonneoted with any single n artificial satellite. It ma7 be interesting to note that~ we have three other reoen* reliable reports or somewhat similar unidentified objects, tollowat Laa Cruces, N.M. Portland, Oregon Chapet Hill, N.c. Oolor waa not mentioned in the.Las Cruces case. The Portland objeot changed rrom white to red and was a1most one-fourth or the aoon in size. The Chapel Hill object waa one-tenth ot the moon's dicmeter and had a large orange tail. All were travelling in a more or less easterly direction. Also ot interest, tor whatever the coincidence ma7 be worth, 1 the raot that the two time inter~vala beaieen the last Bermuda west-to-east sighting, and the Las Cruces and Portlond observations, have a common denominator, or comrnon.basic period, ot about 34S minutes. The Chapel Hill sighting can also be included in this time grouping it we use one-third or this period, llS minutes, as the common basic period tor all three intervals. (H.B. The Portland aight1ns time la only ver7 approximate).
