At approximately 0959 hours (JST) on 19 February 1958 an unknown phenomena~believed to have been an explosion, was detected at 4430N/13730E a t a OS radar site in JAPAN. The phe nomena lasted approximately two tours. This office checked with the 1-!eteorological Agency for barorr.etric or seismic data on the premise that an explosion was detonated. It was learned teat t here ware no barometric or seismic changes indicative of an explosion at the above time. Negative infor~tion was also obtained from tbe }~riti=e and Air Staff Offices of the Defense Agency. 6 . Officials of the Heteorological Agency stated that any baro:T.etric change would be detected at weather stations i~ JAPAN. The seismic de~ection~ of a nuclear exolosion at the HATSUSHIP.O SEISl".uLOGICAL OBSERVATORY is believed ~ o ba7e been in~tigat~d froo this search.
