Mo.t observers that the object waa round and "intensely red." one of the witn_.., and a repolter for radio station Kcor.. said the object alowed bript red in the center, dimin- bhinl in inteftlity toward the outer borders. He said the alow waa c:onatant, rather than pulsating. "It couldn't have been a star" he said. "It waa a clear night, the stars were out, but this object was a bright red, much larger than a star, and it was moving. It looked as if it were leaving a very slight smoke trail." Another wit- ness said it was juat a little "smaller than the moon, movina very slowly in the sky. . . Sometimes it appeared Battened or diak-shaped and then it would change to a shape. Whe=-: it finally disappeared it seemed to fade out as though it were pasaing behind a cloud. The only thing wrong with that explanation is that the sky was clear in that area. There weren't any clouds." Some thought it might be Mars, but Dr. Gordon Newkirk, astronomer at the University of Colorado ruled out thia explanation, thus: "Whatever it was, it appeared in the wron1 ae,tor of the aky to be Mars." Said New- kirk, 'Moat aircraft transit the sky in a fraction of the time ... A check of Lowry AFB and other air installations in the area failed to disclose any balloon release or aircraft Bight that could have accounted for t.'le phenomenon. Said Capt. George San-j denon, meteoroiOifilt at Lowry AFB, "Recurrence of the 1 Ft. Collins obje !or .uveral nithtas makaa tampereture , invenaon an Ulllibly aplanatioa ill tbie "
