SOURCE: Address: Cau:p Pomponio, California Occupation: Can:p Ranger, BSA Education: Tvo (2 ) years high school Qualifications: Unknown IIo RELIABILITY: SOURCE had served four (4) years with the US NaV'.f as a cook destroyer, with additional duty as a gun-pointer on a 20mm gun. SOURCE tried to be exact and precise, as during the conversation he would repeat and emphasize his statementso SOURC~ seerr~d to be of average intellige nce and eager to help in aQY way that he could. As the only contact with the SOURCE was by telephone it ~s impossi- ble for. the investigator to determine the reliability. IIIo SO.URCE S DESCRIPTION OF SIGHTING: SOURCE was informed by his wife that, "that thing was there again ; as she l.fas out gathering in her clothes. TI1e sky was clear with many stars visible, the weather cool vith a mild breeze. Object wss first sighted in the East, and ch~cked for movement by aligning it with sorr.e trees. The object was brighter t r.an any stars in the sky. With the nak~d eye it appeared to be between the size of a pea and pin head, reddish-orange in color and funnel shaped. One end au1-eared cut off and sharply outlined while the flared end \otas fuzzy or blured Flared end seemed to be aprox t larger t~an the clear~ outlined endv SOURCE then obtained a J inch 16 pover Navy type periscope. When viewed through the periscope the object a ppeared to be blue-red~ellow in color. Object seemed duller then brighter at times. SOURCE established the position as 90 degrees prior to calling tr.e auth- orities at 1-:0FFET NAVAL AIR STATI0~1, CALIFORNIA, D.ThTH 5724. During a time lapse of nprox 30 minutes, SOURCE returned to check the object and by use of a compass ascer- tained t~at the object had moved to 95-100 degrees? SOURCE observed the object for uprox one (1) hour, and when last viewed the object vas in tte ESE direction aprox 30 degeees off the horizon. SOURCE had observed a similar oc~nce from 160900Z -161000Z Nov 55, at which ti=e he sighted two (2) objects, but believing them to be stars did pot report the sighting at that time.
