I obseved Mha~ appeared to be a falling staru on a tr~ bear- bg oi approximately 030 degrees. J;n a matter o.f two seconds,approx-lJJately, this light steapened in ang.le of descent and inteBsity of b~ brill j ance that I thought it was the 'turtle back" light on an aircraft in a steep dive 3.Ild apparently in the p r ocess of crashing. I ran .out U> t."l.e beacn(a:pprox::Lrnate- 17 100 feet) and observed this light to increase in briJliaoc, arigle of desc- c;m !:i, and apparent speed until at an angla of about 10 degrees above the hori- z om:.al, (just above the horizon) then slow down and h over with a bri ] 1 i ance far gJ;"eatar than any ~j rcraft light I have ever observed. 1 t this t'!me it was on 3 true bearing of approxi.matel;y 010 degr9t3S. I called for Major Jaites llil- .!dns to c ome and see i t . By the time he a.r:rived.( about one ;ninuta) the light had : '.aded in bri 11 i am:e t o about the .intensity oi -a :lor.:na.l .hi te light on an ai rc:raft. The light gra.duall,y faded in intensi t y and d.i3appea.rsd from rtew. 2 . The 11 ~t va.s visible !or at least seven (7) mi nutas. ) . E.sttmatee of speed and altitude are impossibla. 4.
