Derr, CiTilian Guard, Richmond QUartermaa tar De_ o t , ~as inter"riewed and stated. that a t approxi~tel7 0 615 ~nrs 10 Feb ~3, while at t he ~in gat e of the Ric~ond ~arter~ster De;ot , he observed two(2) objects or lights a?proaching hiw from the n o=theaat at a diata.:1ce of 1 t ~ilea, at an altitude of approzimately o~e t housand (1000) feet and approximatel7 two hundred (200) fee\ apart. rhe objects passed over the !lk Pasture approximately five bundred(500) !eet south of the main gate. At this point, the object paaaed out of Derrs line of vision. Derr stated that he haa spent conaiderable time in the Ticinity of air~orta and that he ia certain that these lighta vere not navigation lights, landi~ lights ar any other type of light that he haa observed on co~ventional aircraft. Derr stated that the obJects or lighta were circular in shape, yellowish in c olor and that the objects did not emit a beam of 1i6ht. Derr stated that !rom his vantage point, t~e lights appeared appro~imately 18 inches in ~iameter. 6. The Baa~ weather Office, Langley Air Force ~ase, Va., adviaed that the ~eather sa1udnce for Richmond, Va., a t OoJO hour s , 10 Feb 53, waa aa follows: Clear; visibility 12 miles; temperature 29 ..lesr ees; dewuoint 19~; ~1 from nor~hwest at 3 ots; no c l ouds. 9. The u. s. Weat~er office, BicrJw~-Yirgiaia, advised that they had released a weather balloon at 0415 haa.a, 10 Feb 53 which aacendad at a rate of 700 feet per m1Dn:e. The Civil Aeronautics Authority, Meteo~logical Station, Richmond, Va., advised that t hey bad released no veather ballooaa on 10 Jeb 53. 10. Camp who vas at the aoutbeaat end of the depot stated t hat he observed the objeclil approaching hi~ from the eaat and that tbe7 proceeded to the southwest. ca~ stated that the7 dia&ppeared from view at a atremendbus rate of s~eed.
