Th~t slgh~tnr ahowed that its altitude was 8,000 teet. at 8 1/2 miles from the at.at.ion. Woath~r conditions were talr with alto cumulous clouds, no t.P.mperat.ure lnvers1ona presen~ 1n th~ area. Eight. t.rnsiont. airorart flew through the area during th~t radar otaervatlon and an F-51 was directed ~o investip:At.e. 'lbe pilot aaw noth1ne unuoual. The rad4r operators involved have had several 1eara experlf!nee II. Di!;:usalon or Incident Photographs were taken or the PPI scope but. have not been reccivod by ATIC. There is a possibillt.7 that local cloud formations mlly have causf!d a spurious radar return. Other than this there appears to be no plausible explanation tor the incident. III.
