At 0401351, )(arch 1952 the Pilot and ere.,. or a C-54 type aircraft ot: the 5Jrd Tro~op Carrier Squadron, (H), APO 75, sighted an unidentifieJ ny~g object The C-54 was returning to Ash~a Air Ba~e {33~ 53' N-130 40' E) and was approx tely 15 miles west or the Base, 9ver toe ~;] Qf Jorr, g at an altitude o f 1,500 feet, and lm.s lettin!; down at the rate of 500 feet penninute. Speed of ths C-54 was 130 knots. ThP. C-54 was turning to 300 degrees. The PU ot, lot Lt. E.J. Vieed , AO 2053P.5;, stat.ed that th8 ob.1ect was heading 290 degrees, itself appeared to be oval shaped, frol:l 50 to 100 feet in length, and that both the trail anrl the object were bright orange in color. The object, itself, was approxj~tely 50 feet thick; the trail was approximate- ly 50 feet in length. He stated that the object was obs~rved for from 1~ t o 2 mi nutesa. The object ~s at an estimated 15 rn1le~ distance from him, at an estL~ted altitude or 10,000 feet, and was moving on a horiz:)ntal plane at a "terrific speed". HI! added that it seemed to gradually fade f~m sight The other two crew members, 2d Lt T.G. Ca~idge, AO 1911543, Co-Pilot, and S/Sgt. T. Dendy, AF 14176517, Engineer, concurred in th~ above account o f the sighting Lt. Weed further stated that the object was definitely not a jet aircraft. he stated that he has seen jet type aircraft operating at night,a~d, further, that he has also seen jets operatin~ with arterPu!-:;ers during p~riods of darkness. He and the crew were very impressed ith the obeerTation,remarkin~ that they ~L~ost forgot to land th~ aircraft because th~ object siphted had captured their complete attention Rt.
