The target vas going away fron the station on an azi.uuth or 210 ~ at a speed or about 1500 mph vhen first o"> served but appeared to rcvPrse its dir~ctlon and returned toward the s~tion lb9 set vas ndJus~d oo that the target ~ould be obseT\ed as it closed ~ on the station but after this change vas r~e the target wus again observe~, how- ever, at about its original locatior., and P.galn going away rrc~ the st~tiono Just before it faded it ap;>c a.rE'd t.v te me.Zing a turn bac.:k to'.Jard the s:..::.tion. At lO)OZ an F94 was airborne to search for the objectc At this ti=: the object vas going avr~ from the station at a high ra~ of speed so the F-94 was told to orbit. About this tine th'3 ground station lo~t conta;:t. vitb the object ~tt continued to track the F-94~ . .lt about llOOZ iL3 the F-94 vas a pproaching Nena.r..a (near F'airbanks), the radar observer in the F-94 observed two targets, one fcl!'lt and one brig::~o 'lhe aircraf't vas at )0 000 r .... and the te.r&et was at 25 000 rt, The te:~ts erossed from right to left !L"ld appeared to be traveline slow'!.y and as t.C.~ F-94 approached the target a high rate of closure vas indicated.. The contact was lost at a range or 200 yards .. Approximately one hour lat.er, again nc9J' t:enana, another contact vas o a.de b7 the F-94. In this instance the ta:-get \las kept dead ahead and level. When the t<lrget vas at a range of 200 yards, the pilot pulled up and the t!lr(;et was lost$ The rate of clcsl.C"e during th~ run vas 100 lmots even though the F-94 hsd naps down. No other ccntact3 \rere na.de and th() al-rcreft.. ~s releas~ at Uuring the two airbor:le contacts the F -94 was beir~ tracl{ed by the g:-ound station but the object ~as not being picked up. The weather was clear but no v1sual sighting waa mad~" Or. the same ::ight. the s~e crev had visually id~ntificd a C-54, a C-47, and a Sdall clvili~ aircraf't trom .)00 to 500 ya!'J 3., There were no clouds i.n the sky but l. ~ a s a dark night.
