In reply to your request for ir~ormation concerning a reported sighting of an unidentified fiying object, you ar-e advised tha.~ at a pproximatel7 19:10 in 23 Ddcember 1950, my wife, my son and I were proceeding from ~ quarters at Earne3t Harmon Air Force B~se, Steph~n ville, Newfoundland, to the Officers Club. It was a r.lear cloudless night, with a full moon which was almost directly overhead. The visibi- lity was exceptional and estimated at JO miles or more. Suddenly a cloud a ppeared approximately 10 degreas of the moon, it be~an abruptly as a thin contrail tupe cloud appearing from the outer atmo::;phere. As the cloud form descended the contrail b~came heavier, then ~hanged to grey and progressed into black. The cloud extended from the vicinity o r t he moon and disappeared beyond the horizon to the .. .,est. It had no visible movement, but apparently appeared aJ_l ~t once .
