Mrs eemed to be ve17 intellipn in this convers.ation. The following details were reported: a. Location obJect cited: WhUe driving automobile on MartindaJ e at Frederick Pike approximatelY' six miles vest of VandaJia, time -o630. b. Description: described the obJect as spherical and pointed out it looked mch like a parachute and was traveling at a high ~te ot speed in a northeast direction. It was stated that the most significant/ tact noticed vaa that although the sun was veey bright at that time there ap- peared to be no reflection tram the obJect. The color was described as grayish vhite. No sound was heard. It was observed for approximately one-baJ t minute before it disappeared. It was estimated that it was at an altitudect' 5,000 c. Investigation: The operations people were contacted and it was deteuld.ned that no Air Force parachute drops were made this morning. 1'he weather people both at AMC and the chief forecaster Mr. J. Stephens at Vandal ia, were contacted regarding the possibility of weather baJ loons being in the vicinity. However, no such balloons were released today. It was aJ.so pointed out that there was a possibility that the obJect could have been a large rad:Jo signal weather baJ J oon. These bal J oons are released at Ch&JlUte Field, Illinois, and also Toledo, Ohio. The wind at VandaJ ia this morning was :tran the northeast at seven mph a,nd a clear slq was reported. d. Dr. Bolton at the Air Institute was contacted to determine if possibl7 an astronomical .explanation for such a sighting at this time was available. Be advised that it would be impossible to sight any plau~s during the day at this tiM of the year. In view of this, no explanation can be made of the sighting other than the general explanation which is contained in the Intelligence Depart- ment report on thi8\subject. 2. As a ot interest in the connection, Miss JCio-.SXD""-1 reported t:tiat she observed what looked like a fiying saucer above Area C entering Area A to report for work this morning, time 0751, location: above Area c. Altitude was estimated to.be at 1,000 feet when first noticed and object climbed to approx:Jmately 10 000 feet. Description reported was that the object vas very bright and a silver color looking very much like a flying saucer.
