The weather at 2130 I.S.T. waa maaaured 16,000 aad all holden ot c\D'Ient o.eJ:~CUt, YiaibilitJ .fifteen plua, temperature 38, dew point 13. wiDd 29 witb etroaa pte. alti11eter 29.99. The pte were soing to 43 mph. At approximate~ 2155 E.s.T. I noticed a light d west ot the 'rower whiob caught rq attentiQn because ot ita unconventional oolor, a deep blue. I tocuaed biDooulars on the light to dterrnine what aircraft would be abowi.na eo unorthodox a li1ht. Even through the glasses the object appeared to baft DO clear] definable aDd aeeMd to cone~ ot mereq an elJptoid pattera ot light blurred at the edgea and deep blue 1D color. It waa llOYiftl 1D a path trc. eouthweat to northeast at what eeemed to be a convent- ional rate ot I could not determiDe ita altitude. but it was about lS depees above the hori1on elq when I first aaw it. M I continued watching the light changed trcm deep blue to a sharpq distinct white. At this point I summoned tbe ~ther controllers who verified what I was seeing in the glasses. B7 tbia ttm. the light bad agaiD gone to tbe deep blue color originallf noted. Aa we watched, tbe single blue light appeare d to dissolve into two blue lights which tbeD began to retolve around one another in the manner ot two small aeaohligbte at pla7. DuriDg this process their trajector.r took them trom tltteen to for~ tive degrees above the borison. I was about to accept the l11bte as being two searchlights that someone was pla7ing around with in apite of the abeence ot a~ bea and 1n spi-te ot the ceiling height which precluded a "spot" J when one ot the blue lights passed trom southwest to northeast em a borisontal course. I used the ceilometer light northwest ot the 'rower u a tixed base retereDCe point and the object now showing all white passed the light in what appeared to be a conventional flight path and at a conventional rate of apeed. The object was lost in the northeaat .1n imnedia te check waa de with both Squantua aDd Bedford Towers to ucertain it they had aiJ traffic reported iD our area. the onl.7 reported traffic in the arert was on base leg in the landing pattern at Bedford. ?ihile this check was being made, an object ot DEFINITE MASS was observed suide~, glowiDg red like a mol ten mass ot tal and remaining Tiaible tor about 10 to lS seconds. Again thia waa at abcut forty tive degrees above the horizon Eaa Northeast 858 was approaching trom Bedford to lend at Boston the pilot, waa requested to make a wide approach to see it he c see anything unusual in the area between the tliid and ten or ao miles west. Hie report was OOilpleteq negatiYe. The time encom:.-ssed bewteen the moment when the lights .-ere firat seeD and their tiDal diaappearance was from approxite] 2155 to ID evaluating the experience, the undersigned rigorousq(and with misgiving) expll')red the possibility or the incident being \ aubjective, but the fact that tour ot us saw the san,. thing would seem to " . l llliaimize this possibility.
