On 22 August 1~9, Kr. t elephoned Randolph Air Force Base that he had seen a "Flyillg, t>aucer" betwe 0300 a~d_.Q230 hours, Central Standard Time, on 20 A~ust 1949. Mr. contacted at Llano, !exas, stated he had seen an~object-fifteen (15) feet high and three (3) or.tour (4) feet wide, oontaini~ eleven (11) quarter moons , six (6) inohe in diameter. Object first sighted rising over edge of mountain, one and two-tenths (1.2) miles NNE of observer's bouse. Object wa s copper colored and gaTe ott sufficient light to cast shadow Object rose straight up to height of 250 teet in fifteen (15) minutes, stayed at this height and moTed South 1500 teet in two (2) hours. There were no clouds. Object made no o~d. ObserTer had no information on method of support, propulsion, air duot exhaust or manner of disappearance. Only other witness was lJrs. who stated she saw object, but thought it was moon. Mr. rancher, 54, is apparently sound in health except for cataract over left eye. Observer appeared somewhat eooentrio due to claims that !.tilk:y Y/ay, Big and Littlft Dipper are currently out ot position, and that his ranch extensive deposita or uranium, diamond dust , graphite and iron. This inveati~ation is prodicated upon inforMation received from the Air Provost Marshal's Office, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, and instructions from the District Commander, District Office #10, Kelly Air Force Base, Texas, in compliance with AFCSI Letter No. 85, l2 August 1949 2. At approximately 1030 hours, 22 August 1949, a telephone call wns re- ceiTed b the Air Provost Marshal's Office, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, from Mr. to the effect that on the morning of 20 August 1949, at about 0300 hours, Central Standard Time, he, Mr. age fifty-four (54), a rancher living Llano, Texas, had aeon an unidentified aerial object about fifteen (15) feet high and three (3) or four (4) feet wide, risi ng troa behind a mountain, one and two-tenths (1.2) miles from his home. The object waa copper colored and appeared to contain eleven (11) quarter moons, points up. The object slowly rose up to a height of about 250 feet in fifteen (15) minutes ttme, and then moved South for a distance of 1500 feet, staying at a height of 250 feet above the ground. This horizontal movement was very slow and took about two (2) hours. The observer did not see the object disappear, as be went into the house tor broktast at 0530 hours. . 3 Kr. gave the tollowin~ specific details covering this sighting a (1) Date ot sighting 20 Auguat 1949 (2) Time ot sighting 0300 hours to 0530 hours, Central Stamard Time. (5) Where sighted (observer' position)a Obaerter first sighted object while he was standing in the back door (on north side) of his house. During the time the object was in eight, the observer moved around in his yard, outside the house, on the aorth and east sides ot his house. This object resembled a large box kite with two (2) quarter moon1 on top and two (2) quarter moons on bottom. !here were about aeYen (7) or eight (8) quarter moons between top and bottom. It appeared as if there were two (2) quarter moons aide by aide on each aide or what should ha~ been a center shaft, but the observer could see nothing in thia area. Each quarter moon was about aix (6) inches across, but they did not appear to be connected in any way (o) Apparent construction. BUVENS, Air Provost Marshal's ott1oe, Randolph Air Poroe Base, Texas, contacted Yiaa August 1949 , who ia employed in the Oftice of the Fourth Army Chief of Staff, Fort Saa Boaaton, Texas, and she stated that Wr is subject to spells or illneaa occasionally, although she is reasonably eure that he is not mentally affected by these spells. She stated turther that he is trustworthy and reliable as tar as in tenti but knowa nothing or any effects of his imagination. Miee further stated that Mr. ad a cataract atteotins hie eyes, did not know whether it affected one or both eyes. This was noted from 100 KC through 170 KC. llr. also stated that he had "noticed the Milky WaT too r3r North and running too much East and West", and that the Big Dipper and Little Dipper were out or place bein& in the Northwest in the afternoons, shifting to due East in the early mornings". Mr. has no compass, all directions are baaed on the local belief that his house faoea due South. (b) llr. stated that he had been awakened on the morning ot 20 August 1949 at approximately 0240 hours, Central Standard Time, by the a ound of his son coming home from a date. Not being able to go back to sleep, Mr cot up and started out of the house to smoke. '.&11... e he waa standing in the back door of his house, which is on the north aide, he saw what red to be a large moon rising IH! of the house. Ur. knew that this was oot possible, since it was the dark of the mnon. In order t o get a better view of this object, Mr. nt out- aide of hie house and moved around in his yard to a position where he oould see the objeot through openings in the trees (9) Witnesses Mr. went inside and ot his wife up at approximately 0315 hoursJ however, Mrs. looked at the object and atated that it was only the moon, and she was not interested in o the moon at that hour of the morning at her age. Mr stated that he had oheoked with various neighbors in the vicinity and none of them had seen this object. \'lben inter- rlewed, Mrs. onfirmed her atatent (10) nts ot interrogator re~arding the intelligence aDd character ot person interrogated. This belief on the part of the t is based upon the following unusual allegations made by Ur.
