The following information received from the non-co~ssioned Officer in Charge, Detachment 1905-1, 1905th AACS Squadron, ~edford ~ cipal Airfield, Medford, Oregon, ia submitted in accor dance with USaF Letter, subject "Reporting of Information on "Flying Discs" dated 6 Feb- ruary 1948. 2. At approximately ll30P, 8 Aug 49, a shiny object was seen in the alcy by a member of this Detachment and reported to t he writer. Almost im- mediately thereafter, another such object waa sighted, and the Control ro- wer waa requested to locate and attempt to identify the objects, since t he altitude was too great for accurate observation without the aid of binocu- lars. The Control Tower operator on duty reported to Seattle Air Traffic Control and McChord Flight Service that he had seen three (a) silver-colored objects at an undetermined altitude, apparently with con- Tentional wings, going "very fa!t.". An informal conversation with :.!l- ean revealed that the objects sighted appeared to be moving at a speed com- parable to or gre~ter than that of standard jet aircraft, and an unofficial alt:\.t\lde estimate of thirty thouaan'i (30.000) teet. No accurate altitude eatimate could be obtained, due to the absence of clouds to form a ba31a tor auch an eatimate. Fowever, a United Air Linea DC-4 in the vicinity at aeventeen thouaand (17,000) teet reported to the Tower that he was unable to aee any atrange objectiJ therefore, presumably the objects can be def- initely deter ed to have been a~o~e that height. Further investigation by mean ot aircraft proved truitless, since the objects were not seen again tor eome time prior to their arrival. Number ct re~orts were re- ceived ot sightinG after it was generally known that some stranbe objecte had been aeenJ but it i1 believed that these aightinga were balla of ttis- tle prevalent in the area at the time.
