THE GAZETTE, August 13, 1946 SWEDEN PLANS :R0CKET RADAR More Thn 1,000 Mystery Mis- siles Reported Sunday Night (Special Cable to The New York Times and The Gazette.) Stockholm, Sweden, August 12 Sweden now is using radar in the fight against the mysterious mis- siles that hav been. flying ver the country, it was made known to- day. The atmosphere here after last nights swrm of projectiles ver central Sweden was almost at the boiling point, and there were per- sistent >rumors that Sweden was ging to, or already had, borrowed several complete radar outfitsfrom Great Britain to obtain the quick- est results. It is also believed that the United States foremost long-distance bombing expert, Gen. James H. Doolittle, who now is retired, is coming to Sweden to inspect the radar equipment, although the of- ficial explanation is that he is com ing as a business man for the Shell The Swedish General Staff today described the situation as .ex- tremely serious, and it is obvious; Sweden no longer is ging to tol- erate such violation of her integ- rity. Everything possible is being done to put an end to it. The general staff recelyed more thn 1,000 reports on the rocket bombs last night and this morn- ing. It is a tremendous task to check on all the reports, but it will be done and experts already are scattered all ver the country to investigate each little bit found. The reports give detailed and in- teresting descriptions of the bombs. A Swedish astronomer and meteor ologist said: I wras studying some clouds through a telescope when suddenly I observed a luminous point on the horizon. I first believed it to be an air- plane, he said, but soon I noticed it was travelling much too fast for that, and within ten seconds I got a full view of the projectile. I man- aged to get a clear view of the bombs body and estimate that it was at least 90 feet long. The body was torpedo-shaped and shining like metal. No sound could be heard, although the bomb was only two kilometres away. At the ex plosion, a terrific light flashed up that for a moment completely blinded me. No fire. smoke or 1 sparks were noticeable.
